Construction updates

What are the works for?

We’re installing high-capacity underground pipework across Enfield to form a heating super-highway. In the future branches will be added to supply residents across Enfield with heating and hot water from Energetik’s near zero carbon energy centre at the Edmonton Eco- Park. This will help decarbonize heating and hot water in tens of thousands of homes in the borough, as part of Enfield’s wider net-zero ambitions. In order to achieve this, we will install pipework in the ground that we expect will never have to be revisited until the end of its useful life at the turn of the next century.

How will the works be delivered?

Whilst we appreciate that any road disruption can cause inconvenience, we have designed the route to minimise disruption, including maintaining existing bus routes, adequate access for all local residents, and for the majority of the route, we will maintain a two way traffic flow as normal. The works will be delivered in short 50m-100m sections, which will result in some parking bays being suspended as the works move along Hertford Road. The work areas will be segregated by suitable fencing to ensure a safe working area for the work force and provide a safe route for the public at all times.

We have notified the local community living in the immediate area by way of letter to all properties along the length of the streets affected and into adjoining streets. For those outside of this local delivery area, the advanced warning notices, have been put up to advise those passing through. For information on each section, please see more information below, and on the Enfield Council’s website: https://www.enfield.gov.uk/services/roads-and-transport/road-works.

The following section of works will be divided in two phases.

When will the works take place?

Works are scheduled from 23 March 2026 to 19 April 2026.

    What to expect:

To carry out these works safely, temporary traffic management will be required:

    • Temporary four-way traffic lights will replace the existing signals at the junction of Nightingale Road and Hertford Road.
    • A lane closure will be in place at the junction of Hertford Road and Nightingale Road to enable the installation of the heat network pipework.

We will make every effort to minimise disruption and complete the works as quickly and safely as possible

We have worked closely with LB Enfield and its Highways Team, to find ways to minimise the inconvenience our work will cause. This includes extended working hours for our staff which will mean that our work can be completed more quickly. It also means working through the school holidays which is when traffic is at its lightest and public transport is also at its quietest.
