Construction updates

What are the works for?

We’re installing high-capacity underground pipework across Enfield to form a heating super-highway. In the future branches will be added to supply residents across Enfield with heating and hot water from Energetik’s near zero carbon energy centre at the Edmonton Eco- Park. This will help decarbonize heating and hot water in tens of thousands of homes in the borough, as part of Enfield’s wider net-zero ambitions. In order to achieve this, we will install pipework in the ground that we expect will never have to be revisited until the end of its useful life at the turn of the next century.

How will the works be delivered?

Whilst we appreciate that any road disruption can cause inconvenience, we have designed the route to minimise disruption, including maintaining existing bus routes, adequate access for all local residents, and for the majority of the route, we will maintain a two way traffic flow as normal. The works will be delivered in short 50m-100m sections, which will result in some parking bays being suspended as the works move along Hertford Road. The work areas will be segregated by suitable fencing to ensure a safe working area for the work force and provide a safe route for the public at all times.

We have notified the local community living in the immediate area by way of letter to all properties along the length of the streets affected and into adjoining streets. For those outside of this local delivery area, the advanced warning notices, have been put up to advise those passing through. For information on each section, please see more information below, and on the Enfield Council’s website: https://www.enfield.gov.uk/services/roads-and-transport/road-works.

  • Ongoing works: Cemetary & Angel Walk (Edmonton)

    Location/Area: Angel Walk / Cemetery Walk, N9 / N18

Following the completed works on Plevna Road, the next portion of pipework will be installed mainly in the footpaths along Cemetery Walk and Angel Walk. There will be phased footpath closures implemented and some occasions where the cycle path will need to be temporarily closed/diverted.

All construction traffic and logistics access to Cemetery walk will be via Grilse Close.

In order to minimize impact on the natural environment, there will be temporary tree protection measures applied along Cemetery Walk. There will be a need to prune some of the local trees in the work area, and some trees will have to be removed and replaced following the installation completion. We have worked with the council’s tree protection officer to ensure that we carefully manage our activities in the area to minimise our impact.
