Construction updates

What are the works for?

We’re installing high-capacity underground pipework across Enfield to form a heating super-highway. In the future branches will be added to supply residents across Enfield with heating and hot water from Energetik’s near zero carbon energy centre at the Edmonton Eco- Park. This will help decarbonize heating and hot water in tens of thousands of homes in the borough, as part of Enfield’s wider net-zero ambitions. In order to achieve this, we will install pipework in the ground that we expect will never have to be revisited until the end of its useful life at the turn of the next century.

How will the works be delivered?

Whilst we appreciate that any road disruption can cause inconvenience, we have designed the route to minimise disruption, including maintaining existing bus routes, adequate access for all local residents, and for the majority of the route, we will maintain a two way traffic flow as normal. The works will be delivered in short 50m-100m sections, which will result in some parking bays being suspended as the works move along Hertford Road. The work areas will be segregated by suitable fencing to ensure a safe working area for the work force and provide a safe route for the public at all times.

We have notified the local community living in the immediate area by way of letter to all properties along the length of the streets affected and into adjoining streets. For those outside of this local delivery area, the advanced warning notices, have been put up to advise those passing through. For information on each section, please see more information below, and on the Enfield Council’s website: https://www.enfield.gov.uk/services/roads-and-transport/road-works.

The remaining pipe installation and associated construction activities are planned to continue under approved lane closures, subject to weather and ground conditions.

Traffic flow on Advent Way will be maintained under traffic light controls during the closure.

Investigative works on Montagu Rd which aims to assist with developing a suitable corridor for district heating pipes, between existing services.

Due to critical locations of these trial holes, the safest method for works to be carried out is under directional road closure of Montagu Road from the junction with Conduit Ln to the junction with Town Road. The works will require a diversion route for the north heading lane of Montagu Rd.
